Summer Reading List 2013

These are books I've been reading. This summer has been about changing and trying to improve as a person (as we all should try to do in our twenties). Although the books on mental illness are research for my novel, most of these have been reading-for-growth and reading-for-pleasure books.

All we have to Fear: Psychiatry's Transformation of Natural Anxieties into Mental Disorders (Non-fiction) Allan V. Horwitz and Jerome C. Wakefield

Much Ado About Nothing (Play) William Shakespeare

How Should a Person Be? (Novel?) Sheila Heti

When We Were Good (Novel) Suzanne Sutherland

All We Want is Everything (Short stories) Andrew Sullivan

Up is Up, but so is Down: New York's Downtown Literary Scene, 1974-1992 (Anthology and criticism) Edited by Brandon Stosuy, Dennis Cooper, and Eileen Myles

Sorry, Tree (Poetry) Eileen Myles

On My Way (Poetry) Eileen Myles

Tender is the Night (Novel) F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Architects are Here (Novel) Michael Winter

Mum Halo (Poetry) John Coletti

The Existential Imagination (Anthology and criticism) Edited by Frederick R. Karl and Leo Hamalian

Patternicity (Poems) Jim Johnstone

Crabwise to the Hounds (Poems) Jeramy Dodds

Between Parentheses (Non-fiction) Roberto Bolano
